| Inserting Hyperlinks in your articles |
| Inserting hyperlinks into your website pages can greatly enhance
the effectiveness of your site by providing more information to the reader
in a given space. I could have used another paragraph to define
hyperlinks, but why reinvent the wheel? There are any number of places
to go to find the definition of hyperlink, so I just
point you to the definition like this. Consider it an educational
or informational detour. If you notice, the hyperlink is defined on
this page by underlined text. For this reason, you should NOT use
underlined text for emphasis as you would do in printed matter. The following is a tutorial on inserting hyperlinks into Article Manager documents. |
| First, open your browser and navigate to the site you want to link to. Once the site has loaded, copy the address from the address field by right clicking on the address and select Copy from the menu. The address will remain in your copy buffer until you copy something else or reboot the computer. |
| Then navigate to Article Manager and open or create the text with the word or phrase that you want to link to the address you just selected. In this case I have created a sentence with the word hyperlinks which will become the link to the address we copied. Place the cursor just before the h in the word hyperlinks, hold down the left mouse button and drag to the right until the entire word is highlighted. Release the mouse button and the text should remain highlighted as shown below. |
| Next, click on the Insert Web Link button. (Fourth from left ... chain links) |
| The Insert Web Link dialog box will appear as shown below. |
| Now just press CTRL-V or right click and choose Paste from the menu to overwrite the http:// in the URL field with the contents of the copy buffer. (The address you copied) |
| Click OK and the hyperlink is created as indicated by the underline it placed on the word hyperlinks. |
| Now, save your work! You may have as many hyperlinks as you want
in an article. Just simply repeat the steps outlined here for each
one. Keep in mind that you could type in the web address rather than
copying it from your browser, but the chances of making a mistake are very
high since web addresses are case sensative and can be quite complex.
For instance, here is the internet address to a Mapquest map of 1 Cascade
Plaza, Akron, Ohio.
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address
&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&address=1+cascade+plaza&city=akron&state=oh&zipcode=44308-1136 Now, try typing that address without errors! |
