First, a brief overview as to how the system works. The system
allows a relatively inexperienced computer user to enter/edit news
articles into the website news system The system consists of
three major components
The Article Editor - News Admin Menu Item
This is the means by which persons with permissions may enter, edit, or
delete articles. The software is installed on the website server and
is accessable from any computer with access to the internet using
Internet Explorer version 5.50 or later browser. Older IE
browsers, Netscape, Firefox, and others will work but the Article Manager
HTML editors have limited functionality with these browsers.
The articles, images, and documents are stored on the website server and
dynamically displayed in categories and subcategories for easy viewing.
The Article Interface - Actual Newspaper Menu Item
Articles are organized by the article interface just as a newspaper is
organized into sections, categories, and subcategories. The
index is displayed on a news "Front Page" and all articles are linked from
there. The latest few headlines and their summaries for any selected
category are displayed in the center of the Front Page. If a website
is based almost entirely on the dynamic content of news, the Front Page
could actually be the website Home Page. In this demo, the latest
headlines are displayed on the Home Page by syndication. The
reader has the choice of going to the Front Page by clicking on the
Actual Newspaper link or on each of the articles in the Syndication
section labeled "Latest Happenings". (See next section below)
The Article Syndication Manager.- News Syndication Menu Item
News Syndication (Also referred to as webfeeds) allows for displaying
articles from one website to one or many others. You may have seen
side panels on a site with news headlines that are clickable links to
articles on MSNBC or CNN or other news sources. The Infusion
Webfeed in the right side panel is an example of a money matters syndication
from contentinfusion.com and
is a free service.
News from your site can be displayed on other websites by having
the site webmaster use the Syndication Wizard to generate the code
necessary to create the display on the target site. As the content of
your news changes, it is dynamically updated on all sites with syndication.
In the same manner, the news headlines can be syndicated back to any page
on your own website, thus being able to display the headlines on any or all
pages of your site. In this demo, I have displayed it on the Home Page
so that all the latest news is the first thing a visitor sees. |
